An Evening with SATISH KUMAR

How do we stay in tune with the natural world? How do we get in touch with our soul? How do we connect more deeply with those around us?

‘Soil, Soul, Society’ a collective that aims to hold inclusive and uplifting space for the topic of social change welcomed the acclaimed author and peace activist Satish Kumar at the studio. Satish's most recent book, Soil, Soul, Society has provided the inspiration for this series of events - and what better way than spending time with the author himself, to begin an exploration of these three fundamental pillars of our world. The uplifting evening started with a conversation followed by a meditation, spoken word & nourishing food.

Satish Kumar (conversation & meditation) -

‘A former monk and long-term peace and environment activist, Satish Kumar has been quietly setting the Global Agenda for change for over 50 years. He was just nine when he left his family home to join the wandering Jains and 18 when he decided he could achieve more back in the world, campaigning for land reform in India and working to turn Gandhi’s vision of a renewed India and a peaceful world into reality.’

Royan Ayinde (live spoken word) -

‘I use photography and poetry to tell better stories about what the world around me looks like. What a photo communicates in a glance can transcend barriers, but the story a poem brings to life can offer the fluidity of another world. When brought together they build universes. My work is primarily concerned with carving a space for us to see the world with new eyes.’

Sarah Bentley (conversation)-

'By working on re-localising food systems you're having a positive impact on a huge range of issues - food poverty, inequality, climate change, reducing corporate control of our food, health and wellbeing - it's a hugely inspiring and rewarding area to work in.'
